Hi There! I know some of you are new subscribers who haven’t been with me since the beginning of my blog journey (a whopping four months ago LOL), so I thought it would be nice to re-introduce myself! If you’re interested to know why I started my blog, check out my very first post, Hello Blog World! But today I’m mixing it up a bit and sharing five fun facts about myself that lie beneath the blog surface 🙂
Band Geek for Life
I may look prim and polished on instagram, but in my former life I was a certified band nerd! I played clarinet from 6th grade through my junior year of college. Band was a huge part of my life; I was section leader of the clarinets all through middle school and high school, played in city and county honor band, and was even Band President during my senior year of high school. My involvement with music brought many great opportunities to my life, including traveling to Italy and performing in front of the coliseum with the USC Trojan Marching Band. It’s been years since I’ve played, but a tiny bit of band geek will always be part of me!
The Next Prima Ballerina
I could have been the next Misty Copeland! Well not exactly – I’m a black girl who used to be a ballerina, but if we’re being real I wasn’t I wasn’t very good LOL. I danced for ten years, and for about five of those years I was taking class every day of the week! It’s been thirteen years since I danced regularly, but every now and then I like to pop into a class at The Sweat Spot. Here’s a fun photo from a Don Quixote performance circa 1999-2000!
Ready, Set, Go!
I’ve mentioned my love for travel on the blog, and I attribute a lot of that love to my study abroad experience in Australia! From February – June 2007 I called Coogee Beach, Australia home, and oh what a home it was! I could see the ocean from the window of my flat, and that’s a view I will never forget. Funny enough, the most vivid memories of my experience actually have nothing to do with Australia itself. My study abroad trip is where I solidified my love for Beyonce (I attended her concert for the first time), I learned the art of pre-gaming, and I met some life long friends! I cannot believe it’s been a whole ten years since I was there! I’m thinking a return trip is in order!
Tacos Over Everything!
If you follow me on instagram then this actually won’t be a surprise to you as I give tacos regular shout outs, but I really love tacos! Carne asada is my favorite and King Taco is hands down the best place to get carne asada tacos in the Los Angeles area. The meat is marinated to PERFECTION, my mouth waters just thinking about them! If it’s my birthday, buy me tacos. If you want to make me happy, buy me tacos. If you want to know the key to my heart, buy me tacos.
Oprah’s Inner Circle
I was once featured in Oprah’s O magazine! Have you noticed I’m a fan of exaggerating the truth 🙂 Here’s the real deal: In a former life I worked in product development for a make up company. While there, I developed a lip and cheek stain that was featured in O magazine as an “Unexpected Fall Make Up Idea.” I may not have been responsible for the marketing and placement of the stain, but my product was in there and that’s all that matters! #weinthere
