I know everyone’s devastated that Queen Bey decided to take care of herself and grow a couple humans in her belly rather than slay all of our lives at Coachella, but the show must go on, right? And with the show comes a very important question – whatever will we wear? Not to worry, I got you covered! Today I’m sharing my outfit picks for Coachella 2017 along with my rules for what (and what not) to wear to a music festival.
Rule #1: Stay Cool!
It is HOT out there in the Coachella Valley Desert. Whether you’re a die-hard festival lover and plan to hit the fairgrounds as soon as they open, or someone who’d rather hang by the pool of your Air BnB until the sun begins to set, staying cool will be key. This bodysuit is an obvious choice for me as it’s basically a bathing suit, and what’s more liberating than walking around in public in your bathing suit! It’s also my first pick because I have an affinity for bodysuits, which you may have noticed in my Joggers-Sportswear for a Girly Girl post. I’m wearing cut off shorts, which are timeless (before you disagree, just think about how many decades we’ve been wearing cutoff shorts), super comfortable, and go with everything. Bringing the outfit together is this fun blue faux fur purse that I’ve fallen in love with! It gives the look a monochromatic finish and is reasonably sized. The last thing you want to worry about in a crowd of “enthused” festival lovers is lugging around a large handbag.
Rule #2: Be Comfortable!
Feathered dresses and suede vests are cute, but how comfortable will you really be with all those layers? Personally, I’m never more comfortable than when I’m in pajamas, and this palm tree print set (top, bottom) is giving me all the pajama feels! The fabric is very light and breathable which is perfect for the desert, and you’ll have no problem laying on the grass enjoying festival performances in this number. I’m adding one of my fave hats to give the look a slight hipster edge, and accessorizing with my taco necklace! If you follow me on instagram you already know my obsession with tacos so I’ll spare you the details here ☺
Rule #3: Try Something New!
Music festivals give us fashionistas an excuse to test out new trends, and I plan to take full advantage of that opportunity. My new trend of choice is bell-bottom pants. We all know bell-bottoms aren’t new, but there is a resurgence of the trend that I’ve had yet to try until now. My personal rule when trying out a new style is “keep it simple.” This is why I chose bell-bottoms in a neutral color (sold out, but similar options linked below), along with a basic Bob Marley concert tee and black slides. I enjoy the retro/flower child feel the pants give which is exactly the vibe you want for Coachella. The fabric is also very fine so I’m not concerned with being too hot. For a bit of fun, I’m wearing my faux fur pom pom purse (again, bag should be super small) and a DIY choker a friend made for me out of some fabric from Joanne’s!
Coachella Survival Tips
Now that I’ve shared my outfit choices, let me give you some Coachella survival tips I’ve learned from experience. If you didn’t already know, now you know☺
1. Do bring allergy medicine. That desert dust is no joke.
2. Do bring a bandana to cover your mouth. Same reason as above.
3. Do bring eye drops. See reasons 1 and 2.
4. Do bring a jacket. Although I mentioned it’s really hot during the day, as soon as the sun goes down it can get pretty chilly.
5. Do try out the tasty treats from the amazing vendors at Coachella, including my fave Mallow Mallow, a gourmet s’more company!
