Everyone who knows me knows I’m obsessed with traveling. Partly because I am genuinely fascinated by places I’ve never been, people I’ve never seen, and cultures I’ve never experienced . . . and partly because I love any excuse to play dress up!
Honestly, packing gives me a strange amount of joy; I think it’s the challenge of putting together the perfect outfit for any occasion, expected or unexpected. A few months ago I jetted off to the Big Apple to visit some of my super chic New York friends. It was one of those “just come and we’ll figure it out once you get here” kinda trips, with not much pre-planning but tons of unexpected adventure (think late night Cuba Gooding Jr. sightings and last minute Formation World Tour tickets). Aside from fanning out to Queen Bey, my favorite day of the trip was when we trekked all the way out to Warwick, NY to go apple picking and wine tasting! Why did I have so much fun? Well aside from the obvious reasons, it was absolutely gorgeous! The trees had beautiful orange and red leaves, a sight that is pretty much non-existent in SoCal. There were also a ton of tall, dark and handsome men! My friend Lily informed me that these men are Italian. Again, sights that are pretty much non-existent in SoCal 🙂
No matter where I travel, I always pack a pair of comfortable, well fitting jeans. They’re perfect for a low-key day of sightseeing or an excursion to NY wine country. This pair of Zara distressed jeans is one of my favorite purchases and was a great piece to bring along on the trip. They are high waisted which comes in SUPER handy on those days when my tummy isn’t the flattest (which is most days), and they have holes in the knees! I don’t know what it is about jeans with holes but to me, they give any outfit just the right amount of edge. I would live in a distressed jean if I could. I used to wear them to work until I found out a coworker who doesn’t know my name refers to me as “the girl with holes in her jeans.” I took that as a sign that work may not be the best place for this particular trend, but I stand by my affinity for them!
I love my H&M blouse for its versatility. I can pull it down for a more conservative look, or hike it up to make it a crop! The crushed velvet material gives it elegance, but it still complements my jeans nicely. I didn’t know how upscale the winery was going to be and didn’t want to risk being completely overdressed, so this mix of glamour and grit was the ideal choice.
What Shoes Do you Wear to pick Apples?
Converse All Stars of course! These might not be the most “blogger” choice of footwear, but I will never abandon my Converse. First, they are comfortable. Second, they never go out of style! You can wear them with jeans or dresses, as I have done many times, and you’ll never get a sideways glance.
PSA: No apples were harmed in the creation of this shot 🙂
I try to keep the value of my accessories at a minimum when I travel just to be safe. That said, budget stores like Forever 21 have some of the cutest, trendiest, and most affordable jewelry you can find. I’ve had the Forever 21 choker I’m wearing for several months and it’s still in good condition! The trick is to store your inexpensive jewelry in little bags, separately. They keep their color and are less likely to tarnish when they aren’t rubbing against each other. If you want to go the extra mile you can coat them with a thin layer of clear nail polish, which makes the color last and prolongs wearability. You can thank me later 🙂
These exact pieces are sold out, but not to worry! I’ve linked great (maybe even better!) options below.
